General Store Information

Q. How do I place an online order?

A. Step 1: Create an account or log in

If you already have a MathWorks Account, log in now. If you don't have an account, you can create one in just a few minutes.

Step 2: Add product(s) to your cart

  1. Click the "Purchase Products" link in the left navigation bar of the online store.
  2. Add products to your cart by clicking the check boxes in the "Add to Cart" column.

Step 3: Checkout

  1. Click the “Proceed to Checkout” button in your cart. (If you haven’t already created an account or logged in you will be asked to do so.)
  2. Fill in the required information on the shipping and billing pages. If your cart contains only non-shippable items, you will not be asked for shipping information.

Note: Be sure to enter your name, address, and phone number exactly as they appear on your credit card statement.

Q. Do I have to create an account to place an order?

A. Yes. To place an online order you must create a MathWorks Account.

Creating an account takes only a few minutes, and your account allows you to:

  • Track and view order status
  • Save items in your cart for up to 30 days and complete orders at your convenience
  • View pricing for products whenever you visit the Web site

If you do not have a MathWorks Account, you can create one now.

Q. Do I have to pay sales tax on my order?

A. The laws differ from state to state and country to country. In most parts of the world, MathWorks is legally required to charge you a transaction tax—such as sales tax, VAT, or GST—and makes every attempt to assess all applicable taxes during the purchasing process. If we do not charge a transaction tax, you may still be liable to pay the tax yourself.

Q. What is the total cost of my order?

A. If an item is subject to sales tax in the state to which the order is shipped, your total cost will reflect the price of your ordered item(s), the shipping and handling charge, and the combined state and local taxes.

Q. How do I get a copy of my receipt?

A. You can get a copy of your receipt from the My Orders section of your account.

  1. Click on the order number to view order details.
  2. Click the “Printable Invoice” link to print an invoice, which you can use as a receipt.

Q. What is the MathWorks privacy policy?

A. We will not sell or rent your personal contact information, and we believe it is your right to know what information we collect, how we use it, and what your options are for its use. For full details, refer to our privacy policy.

Q. How does MathWorks ensure that my credit card transactions are secure?

A. The MathWorks online store has security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of the order information under our control. We use industry-standard security measures called SSL encryption. Encryption helps protect your credit card number and personal information by scrambling the data in transit to MathWorks. Q. How can I contact Customer Service?

Q. Can I pay for my order using a method other than a credit card?

A. No. Ordering MATLAB and Simulink Student Version software from this site requires a credit card. We accept the following credit or non-PIN based debit cards:

  • American Express (where applicable)
  • Visa
  • MasterCard

Q. Do I need a high-speed Internet connection to download Student Version?

A. A high-speed Internet connection is strongly recommended for downloading Student Version products.

Q. How do I download licensed products from mathworks.com?

A. To download your licensed products and updates, you must purchase the Student Version through the MathWorks Web Store and be the licensed end user associated with the Student Version license. You can find the download link in your MathWorks Account.

Q. If my Student Version download is interrupted, what can I do to successfully complete downloading it?

A. If the download process is interrupted, try downloading the product that was interrupted again. If you need additional assistance, contact Customer Service for more information.

Q. How do I request a DVD if I cannot download?

Q. Can I buy add-on products for a previous release of Student Version?

A. Yes.

Q. What are add-on products? Where can I find a list of add-on products?

A. Students can extend the power of Student Version with add-on products. These domain-specific products will help with course work in specialized areas of study. View the list of add-on products. You can also see the list in the Web Store by clicking the Purchase Products link in the left navigation.

Q. I purchased the Student Version from a bookstore, how do I purchase add-ons products?

A. Add-ons must be purchased through the Web Store.  You must first add your license to your MathWorks Account via the My Account link.  Enter the Serial Number from the package and then purchase add-ons by clicking the BUY Add-ons link.

Q. How do I download and install add-on products?

A. Once you have purchased add-on products for your license and the order has been processed, a link to download products will be available on your orders receipt page.  Download your products and run the installer.

Q. Can I download the add-on products more than once?

A. Each product is only licensed for a single computer. To download add-on products you previously purchased online, go to your MathWorks Account and download all of your licensed products.

Q. I do not have access to the Internet. Can I download add-on products from a computer other than the one where the Student Version software is installed?

A. Yes. You can download add-on products to one computer, and then copy the files to the computer where Student Version is installed. The computer you download to must have access to a writable drive to which you can copy the files for transport once they are downloaded.

Q. What is the MathWorks return policy?

A. It is possible to return MathWorks products by following the terms below.

Terms for Returns

Requests for returns must be made within 30 days of purchase from The MathWorks. Products purchased from sources other than The MathWorks, such as a local reseller, distributor, university, or bookstore, must be returned to the source from which they were purchased and are subject to that source’s return policies. To receive proper credit, all returns to The MathWorks must be accompanied by a Return Material Authorization (RMA) number.

Exchanges for Defective Media

The MathWorks warrants that physical media purchased directly from The MathWorks shall be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of ninety (90) days from delivery, or The MathWorks will replace the media at no cost. To exchange purchases from sources other than The MathWorks, contact that source directly.

Requests for a RMA from The MathWorks

If you purchased products directly from The MathWorks, contact the Customer Service Team. The representative will ask you to provide the following information: MathWorks order number and/or license number, product, and reason for return. You will receive an authorization number and instructions for the return. Packages returned to The MathWorks without an RMA number will not be processed, and no credit will be issued.

Q. How do I return an add-on product?

A. Add-on products cannot be returned once they have been downloaded.

If you have not downloaded the add-on product yet, contact the Customer Service team through one of the methods below. Requests for returns must be made within 30 days of purchase.

Q. Can I upgrade my Student Version software?

A. No. There are no upgrades or trade-in credits offered on the Student Version. To obtain the most current Student Version you must purchase a new copy.

Q. Are add-on products compatible with any Student Version product?

A. No. The release and platform for optional add-on products must match the release and platform of your Student Version product.

Q. How can I tell which release I have?

A. You can determine your release by typing ver at the MATLAB command prompt.
